We’ve written before about how to prepare for interviewing at a tele-health company. But you might be wondering, what about during the actual interview?
In this blog, we’ll explore five of our top tips and strategies to help you be successful during your interview.
- Listen very carefully to each interview question – and stay on topic!
Interviews should be conversational, which can lend to the occasional tangential topic or story. If you go off topic, you may be sharing information that is not relevant to the particulars of the role you are applying for, and, at the end of the day, it’s lost time towards demonstrating how you’re a good fit. If you’re unsure you understand the question, it’s okay to ask for clarification.
- Make “I” statements
The saying goes “There’s no ‘I’ in ‘team’” – unless it’s an interview. During your interview, it’s important to articulate your ability to work autonomously in different areas in order to demonstrate as much value as possible. If you say “we”, it’s difficult for the interviewer to discern your independent abilities and what your contribution was to your previous roles. This is your time to shine, use it!
- Share case examples
Actions speak louder than words. It’s more powerful to demonstrate your clinical skills in action than simply just listing them. Outline strategies you use to address a clinical issue and share one case example to showcase how you successfully used that strategy with a client.
- Be concise, but complete, in your responses
Avoid being overly verbose, but avoid giving incomplete responses. The interviewer can only assume you know what you shared, so it’s paramount to touch on all the different relevant areas on the topic. For example, if asked what you assess for in a biopsychosocial, you can include all the different clinical areas, but you don’t need to go into detail on any one point.
- Be friendly
This may seem like a given, but it’s worth saying. Exemplary interpersonal skills, including verbal and nonverbal communication, is a vital part of the role of a therapist – and an employee. The interviewer will use their experience with you to understand what a patient’s experience with you will be like, so be open, warm, and amiable.
